A Place Like No Other

Roll up your sleeves, we’ll start by making homemade bread, a staple in any Newfoundland & Labrador kitchen. After a quick tour of the bakery, you’ll learn how to prepare traditional bread rolls. While your rolls are proofing (rising), we’ll head out on a walkabout around Port au Choix.

Point Riche Lighthouse is our starting point, and where you will first feel the refreshing Atlantic Ocean breeze on your face. This is a great place to view whales, seabirds, and maybe, a caribou from the local herd that often graze here.

Carolyn Lavers

Tour Guide

Baker, storyteller, and former mayor of Port Au Choix, Carloyn Lavers will be your guide on what is sure to be a memorable day.

We’ll leave the lighthouse and stroll north along the coastline, following in the footsteps of the peoples past, toward Phillips Garden, one of the richest Dorset archaeological sites in the Canadian Arctic.

After hearing many lively tales of the region’s human history, we’ll return to the bakery, where we’ll bake our bread rolls to be enjoyed with lunch. We’ll sit to enjoy a lunch of fish chowder, green salad, and a local berry dessert, while we reminisce of a day well spent by the ocean.
